Yesterday I left you all hanging in regards to what product I used to paint my cabinets out in the right undertone.
I will say that taking on this little project was not thrilling to do, but afterwards it was one of the best smaller “to Dos” in my kitchen so far. Not sure if I have a before photo kicking around, but this is a close up to give you an idea of how well the product that I used went on.
The Product that I used is a one that I have been wanting to use for quite some time. It is called “Cabinet Coat”. I purchased it at my local Benjamin Moore paint shop. It was highly recommended by the staff, so I was really excited to see how it would work. The base of it is white so all you have to do is get it mixed up in your desired color for your cabinets.
This is what the project details are…
The Ultimate finish for refurbishing dingy kitchen and bathroom cabinets, shelving, furniture and other interior applications that require an ultra-smooth, factory like finish with long-lasting beauty. Its super adhering quality allows painting “hard to stick” surfaces, even polyurethane and varnish surfaces, without using a primer.
Cabinet Coat is the finest waterborne enamel available today.
It’s rich satin finish is great for all Doors , Trim and Woodwork.
One thing that I will say is that you really have to follow the directions before applying this paint, make sure you have the correct supplies, and rob the” patience bank” to require a bit more patience than you normally would have.
These are some of the tips I would give you.
- Remove all hardware before painting.
- Clean the doors with a natural cleaner so they are free from dust, grease, and make sure they are throughly dry before continuing.
- They claimed that you should give the doors a light sanding with a fine sandpaper. I found with my doors that it kind of gave my doors a bit of scratched look. So go easy on the sanding or just skip that step depending on what type of doors you have. Our doors have a slight coating already on them, so I believe that’s why they scratched. If you are painting real wood doors, then I believe that giving them a light sanding would do the trick.
- I used a brand new mini foam roller. I made sure I got enough paint on the roller and I painted in the same direction the whole time. I did all my painting during day light hours as I really wanted to make sure I was doing the very best with the roller lines. Don’t worry if you see faint lines on the doors while you are painting them. They should dry when the doors are all cured.
- I waited the 8-12 hours that it says you should wait before putting your second coat of paint on
All in all I really liked how the product well, I would highly recommend this “Cabinet coat” paint. If you require assistance with colour selection, Contact me for my availability. If you have any questions about this product, please feel free to leave a comment with your question and I will do my best to answer them.
Have a great week everyone!

I’ve read about this paint, but really wondered if it was too good to be true. It’s great to have your feedback on this, and for me the best tip was to borrow from the patience bank 🙂 That’ funny! It’s a great heads up as I don’t have a very big line of credit on that one!

Did you take the cabinet doors off?

Hi Jodi! I love your style! Classic yet fresh, so pretty. What color did you use on your cabinets? Also, can you please tell me what color you used on your trim/moldings throughout your home? Thanks so much!
Jodi says
Thanks Amanda, I used The same on my cabinets that I used on my walls. Oxford White: Benjamin Moore. As well the trim/moldings around our home.
Hope that helps!
