I can’t believe that it’s almost school time and fall will be well on its way before you know it.
I always find back to school time tough. Between juggling the end of summer activities, work, house cleaning and other activities, and not to mention BOTH my children’s birthdays are right at the beginning of September! I have the case of the crazy’s right now!
The weather has been more than satisfactory here on the West Coast and my living room re-design has been coming along really slow and that’s okay with me. The main painting is finally done as of a few weeks ago. I’m taking my time finding just the right elements and that’s secretly one of the most exciting things for me when I pull together a room for myself or anyone for that matter!
One of the elements that we really want to address is some of the storage needs for our audio equipment for our T.V. We both really want it tucked away and out of sight as much as possible, but also to really make sure that the audio and T.V is not the main feature of this room.
Darryl and I are both drawn to craftsmen style homes and what built-ins represent in the home. Not only do they represent great usability, but they add such architectural detail to homes. No matter how big your home you can always use built -ins to create more visual space to open and add an interesting element into your home. Call it art as well?
We Created this built- in for our office space downstairs and it shares the space with Darryl’s photography studio. Not only does this space give us the flexibility to store just about anything, but it adds such value to our home. We designed the units so they were built from Floor literally to the ceiling. This creates such a heightening effect on the traditional 9′ ceiling room. Everything is all tucked away and out of sight and we love that feel. Less is more approach.
We have other plans in the making on how this whole space will be used, but for now that’s all I will say. Does it really ever end in our home?
I really am drawn to these built-ins, but for the way Darryl and I use our home I really don’t want this much space to store too many belongings. There is a great need for more storage in our living room, but Darryl and I are really trying our best to live really Minimalistic but live with quality. Creating more and more storage for things that we don’t “NEED” is I’m sure in not the answer. This magazine look is really fabulous, but like anything on a magazine you really can’t see the dirt and dust that would eventually attack this beautiful space. Usability and practicality surely would go down for our family in the end.
So that’s the decision you get to make when deciding how you want to use your space. Remember it’s yours and it’s all up to you! What are your thoughts on this space?
