A few weeks ago I shared with you about my goals to tackle some of the projects in my home that were lingering with that “last 20%” that still needed to be finished off. One of my goals for right now was designing our master bedroom for my husband and I. This was a real treat I have to say.
I felt the room was always cool and airy, but was lacking in warmth. But as you can see in the photo, the room has a great layout, but definitely needed that design touch that I had neglected to finish. I’m almost embarrassed to show you the before. Well, here it is…
and this one I guess too…
I set out with a few goals for the space. I knew the feeling I wanted to create for it afterwards. So I let the fabrics, colors, objects and pictures a long the way guide my design. I’ll explain that further in a future post so you can wrap your brain around how I was thinking in hopes of helping you design your own master bedroom.
I didn’t want to over do any one piece. I kept everything to a minimum but maintain the warmth, and liveliness that it was so desperately needing.
My Master bedroom had to have:
1. Keep the existing paint color, which I love, love, love.
2. Change out the drapes for something else.
3. Add some new pillows for a punch of color.
4. Give the walls some artwork and other touches.
5. Put trim on all the windows, to finish them off.
6. Don’t spend a ridiculous amount of money. I allowed myself around $100.
I am happy to say that I met all my goals. I accomplished the “feeling” I wanted this space to provide for us. It is soothing, warm, cozy, romantic, and above all the space gives off a very restful feeling. The whole project cost me a little over $100. A few dollars over budget. A very dramatic effect with little money spent, and using items I already had sure helped!
I designed each side of the bed as a His and Her side. On husbands side there is larger flip top English antique desk. This can hold books or magazines, etc. I especially wanted to find a really fuzzy pillow in this color scheme, and it was only $9!!! Thrilled!
On my side I put a petite antique chalk board desk with one single Hydrangea Flower to echo the flower prints on the opposite wall. We grow Hydrangea’s in our garden in the summer, and we both love them!
My watch and jewelry are stored conveniently in an antique dish. I wanted the pillow to add a vintage look with a modern twist. This flower pillow was just what I was looking for.
The color is amazing as well.
I made sure I kept all the existing bedding, as I love the white so much! It is pure bliss to crawl into our sheets at night.
I believe a master bedroom should be a place of shelter from the every day ups and downs of life. We lead busy lives like most and at the end of the day I know that our bedroom will be a haven of rest, solitude, and it also gives us the ability to have real genuine alone time together.
I hope you enjoyed the sneak peek into our bedroom! Next time I will share with you some of the “special finds” that I came across while shopping for this space. Some of the items I found along the way, and some of the pieces I already had.
Thanks for stopping by for a peak!

Wow Jodi! Not bad for 100 bucks and a few hours work. The change is wonderful. I love the mixing of table style for each side of the bed. I brings a lot of character to the space.

Thanks, it is lovely now. It was more than a few hours unfortunately,…but well worth it in the end.
