For the last few months I have had the privilege of working on designing a space for my soon to be one year old niece. The project has had its ups and downs due to sickness in both of our homes, and what not. I am pleased to say that it is back on track now and almost finished! I am so VERY pleased and so is my sister-in-law with the direction that ONE little pillow had taken us with respect to the room.
One of the items that my sister-in-law requested for her daughters rooms was an antique dresser. Easy BO Breasy!!! I knew exactly just the place to go. The owner of my nearest and dearest antique shop showed us just the dresser we needed so the decision to buy it was so easy. The only stipulation as far as my sister – in -law was concerned is that it could NOT under any circumstances be painted at their house. My brother has a very “No Painting Wood” rule in therir house, but he allowed me to take it to our house to fix up this beautiful dresser. I respect his decision on this one. Putting in the work of restoring the dresser for my little niece I decided would be a great “First Birthday” present for her. I know she will love it when she is older…
So here’s the dresser in its original state. You can see from the picture that the lines of it are stunning, and it also boasts a swivel mirror that isn’t in the image.
Actually, I almost forgot to take a before picture before I started to sand the dresser down. Oh, was I lucky. The dresser took quite a few hours to sand down, fill, and sand down and fill, prime, paint, and coat with a lacquer. All these steps got it to the place that it is and sitting in her room right now. Sitting and looking LOVELY! Oh, I should mention that it met the standards of my very talented and detail oriented Brother who does a fabulous job working with wood. I have to admit I was a bit worried about working on a piece to go into his home. I’m so glad that my brother is thrilled with the results!
I won’t tell you what color I painted it as you will have to wait! I’ll keep you posted in a few weeks on the project and I’ll send Darryl in to photograph the room when it ‘s all put together. I know my little Niece will love it!
Happy Birthday to her!!
