Simple Styling.

You are here: Home / Design / Simple Styling.

January 11, 2012 By Jodi

The most common area of concern with most people who I talk to is  while they love all the Hard elements (counters, cabinets, Hardwood, etc.) that they have chosen in their homes,  but yet when they look around something is missing?  So what do you think it is?  Styling. It’s such a small itty bitty word, but oh so important. I could talk for hours upon hours about styling as it is truly one of the main passions in my business.

Styling your home is crutial  when it comes to finishing off a space. This is your one chance to infuse your home with a bit of yourself or your family and it can all be done in a variety of ways. So today I thought I would share a few of the ideas that I have used in my own kitchen.

1. Disposing of the original packaging.

This is one area that really gets me going. I could spend hours upon hours if I had the time to get every product in my home out of its original packaging. I guess I just don’t like the look of it one bit and one example is dish detergent. Lately I have been using the powder variety to save a few bucks, but at the same time the packaging really isn’t that pretty to look at.  I’ve taken to using a pretty simple jar and I’ve filled it my dishwasher detergent  and it sits on my counter near the dish washer.  If you happen to use the gel packs or the hard blocks then you can simply just fill your jar with those as well!  Convenient and Beautiful all in one.

2.Go Big Or Go Home.

If you do a lot of baking you will like this next idea.  Large clear pots of sugar, or flour look great on any counter.

I found when I need to bake a lot, the large clear pots help me to scoop into the clear jar and still be able to scrap off the excess off the top of my measuring cup and the rest falls back into the large jar.  Experienced bakers know that you can’t just scoop out of a bag and dump it into your mixer or bowl.  If the recipe calls for 1 1/4 cups of flour it means that and only that. This technique and the way I store my flour and sugar has tremendously helped me be a better baker and as a bonus it looks good as well!

There you go, 2 quick tips to get your creative juices flowing!!!

Till then,  keep on smiling.. or I could have meant keep on styling!

I have those jars and I LOVE them for the same reason you stated. They make measuring so much easier and less messy as I’m not fussing with the bag. We also have/had the same apronsink and I LOVE it too. I can’t wait to see more of your kitchen, it looks fabulous.

Love the tips, Jodi! I never really thought about it like this. I tend to keep things behind closed doors, which does not always make for ready and convenient access. Hmmm…
