My Goals For 2011: The Last 20% – Our Master Bedroom

This week I have been tossing around some of my goals for my week and even for this year. I personally really have no clue what truly lies ahead of me, but I feel it’s important to have goals, write them down and try my darndest to accomplish them. Over the next little while, I would love to tackle some of the rooms in my home that aren’t quite finished. A couple of rooms won’t unfortunately be finished for quite some time, and I have come to terms with that. Extra time and money don’t seem to be falling from the sky at the moment.

I’ve always referred to some of these spaces as ” The last 20%”. Sometimes when I’m working on a project in my home, I wasn’t really able to finish off the space quite like I wanted for various reasons. These spaces have stood at a standstill looking fairly good to most, but the designer in me knows better. I have more feeling, and soul to bring to these spaces, and sooner or later they will get done.

One of these 20% rooms is our Master bedroom. I love our master bedroom. It’s painted a light grey with a hint of  purple.  We have one large window that lets in a huge amount of natural light, so the casting of this light across the room is purely relaxing. I guess I’m a fan of light-colored rooms. It’s the feeling I get when I walk into this room. I feel peaceful…. Calm… I’m a home.

I love that our Master Bedroom is just shy of 225 square feet. What more do I need? I guess I find smaller rooms so cozy.

Speaking of small bedrooms. I’m sure all of you have seen the Movie “The Holiday”!! My favorite.

This quaint home is known as “Rose Hill Cottage ” that Iris (Kate Winslet) lives in. It is one of the most spectacular, tiny homes I have ever seen.

This is Iris’s bedroom.  Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet’s characters swap homes for Christmas in a home exchange program. See I told you. Bed’s are for snacking, and drinking wine. I dare you to try it some time. How good does this look! Soooo….. cozy…. Take a look over to the left by the lamp. That little sitting space looks so inviting.

Now back to reality Jodi. Wow! I love that home. Don’t you?

I have thought of all the perfect elements of the perfect space in my head, it’s just a matter of finding all the keys and infusing them into this space.

My bedroom must haves are:

  • Light colored sheets – I love white sheets. They look so relaxing, calm, and clean all at the same time. The color white looks great in the winter months and in the summer months just as good. I have found I grow tired of bold bright colors a lot sooner. Light colors being the starting point, I then can add or subtract colors as my mood changes. This white set is staying, but I may introduce some new pillows?

  • Extra storage – We purchased  this brown antique dresser to use in our master bath reno. This is still on the Big Reno list to do in our house.  Not sure if I will still put the dresser to use?  It has beautiful lines to it, but at this point I’m not sure if I will paint it or not. Yes, in fact I sometimes I don’t paint wood….

  • Beautiful Art or other pieces. As you can see there is nothing above our bed. Very Blah!!!
    • A place to sit and relax. I purchased this 1880’s rocking chair for $10 at my local Antique store. I felt like a took money from the owner that day. I felt blessed.

So that’s in a nut shell what needs to me accomplished. After, this space will be even more calm, more inviting, and more restful.

    Stay tuned…

Your room has great bones. As for the rocking chair, I don’t know how you find deals at the “local” antique store. i went in the other day and find his stuff pricey! I did get an antique coke bottle carrier. I am planning on making a tray out of it. You must be lucky!

Yeah, depends if it’s something he just wants off his hands. He is always up to make deals, just ask!
