So today is part 2 of the office that I have been working on. When I saw this space a few months ago I could really see what a great space it is. It’s not too big and not too small. The room has great bones, but with their adjoining great room space changing styles it was apparent that this space needed a face lift as well. This is one of the first rooms that you view from the front entrance, so it has to look GOOD!
A few weeks ago I shared the Before’s of the office space in the home of my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Here is it is again to refresh your memory.
Since then Darryl and I have installed new hardwood flooring (Darryl installed and I assisted – just to clarify that!) on their main level and as well he built up the under-profiled base boards that the builder installed when the home was built. Darryl simply added two strips of molding to the upper and lower part of the base boards taking the base board height from 4 inches to 6.5 inches. They also have plans in the making to add crown molding to the whole main level of the house. This will further add to the custom look to this home and take it to the next level.
So you wanna see their NEW space? I’ve included some extra close-ups of the space for you to see. Enjoy!
Roughly 3 months ago I met with my brother and sister-in-law to understand want they wanted the space to feel like. They wanted glamour, touches of silver, and splashes of white and black to name a few. My sister-in-law went to Paris, France a few years back and while she was there she realized how much she loved this city and this room had to reflect that as well.
I knew instantly that there was an element right in their basement in the “glamorous” department that I felt would work so much better upstairs in the office. They purchased all these beautiful mirrors and they were hung originally down in the basement where my sister-in-law has her treadmill and cross trainer. The basement is also shared with my brother-in-law’s Man Cave area.

As you can see the mirrors are better suited upstairs where they can be enjoyed, and I think they fit wonderfully in their new office space.
The biggest bang for this office was definitely this pendant chandelier. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law purchased this chandelier awhile ago and it is an amazing piece for this space. Take a close look at all the stunning glass hanging down.
Another element that really changed the space was their office desk. They already had a sturdy desk in the space, and it wasn’t their budget to purchase a new desk. So I was very proud of them for taking on a DIY! The old black desk was transformed with some glossy white paint to do the trick for this space. If I could go into designer dream land for the moment… the desk that I would have liked to pick would be something like this desk in the image down below.
In the end, they really wanted to be able to spend their dollars elsewhere, so the desk stayed. I think it works quite nicely for now!
No relaxing, internet surfing office is complete with out snacks like scotch mints and dark chocolate almonds. I added these to the space for the photo shoot just because I thought they would look great and I was right. You know… they even tasted great too! One of the hardships of styling up a room for a shoot. Too bad my brother in law is allergic to almonds otherwise I would have left them both some.
There you have it. One of the most glamorous office’s of all. I hope you enjoyed the tour.
I’ll send Darryl in to do a post with his take on the photographed space and how he was able to get enough light into the space.
See you next time.

Hi Jodi,
what a great job you and Darryl did on this project. You have one lucky brother and sister-in-law 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration. I would love my living room to look like that when you walk in to our home. Would tie in nicely with my kitchen. Hope you are all doing well. Susan
