Trim and Moldings in a newly designed room can either “make or break” a room’s overall design. I think it’s often an element that most people over look when taking on either a new paint job or a larger design project. Sometimes this can come out of fear of …
1. What type of trim should I install?
2. Should I choose moldings in solid wood or MDF?
3. What if I can’t install it myself?
4. Lastly, I’m not sure who to hire to get the job done?
I’ll touch more another day on actual moldings and other types of trims, but today I thought I would address the act of “Painting out Trim”.
I have been slowly getting my kitchen painted… and I mean slow. The walls are painted in Oxford white (Benjamin Moore) and I love the colour. The moldings have been installed for quite some time and I am choosing to do 1 of 2 options. I could either
A. Keep the moldings in Oxford White. ( Same as wall paint).
OR
B. Paint the trim out in a different shade or tone.
Can you see the difference?
The Design plan for this space requires the moldings and trim to be tone on tone as much as possible and this will give the space a seamless, and cleaner look. While the moldings won’t POP OUT as much, I would rather have it that way for this particular space.
Which look would you want?
Thanks for stopping by.

Today, I’m quite liking design A, but that might be more the shape of the moldings themselves that I’m drawn to.
