I believe having guests in your home this holiday season is more than just giving them a bed to sleep on and food to eat. It’s all the little details that make them feel welcome so their stay with you memorable. Is your home guest ready?
- Choose a room for your guests so they have privacy. This can be a room in the basement or tucked in another room in other part of your home. A place to get away, read, relax, or take small nap if needed.
- Clear out the space for your guests and get it prepped. If your guest room doubles as another function the rest of the year (like an office), then clean up the space. Do some work to unclutter the room so there is enough space for your guests to actually bring in their belongings. Afterall, their things matter as well too. Put a small table or stool by their sleeping space to accommodate a small lamp.
- A place to put everything. Have a place where your guests can store their suitcase, etc. Whether it be a coat stand for their jackets, or a simple dresser to put away some of their things. Storage for your guests is essential, but no need to be elaborate.
- Bathroom and bedroom essentials. Make sure you have adequate towels and sheets for your guests that are freshly washed. Guests often forget things so make sure to have extra items on hand like razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, small bottles of shampoo, etc.
Extra warmth and comfort. No one wants their guests to be cold. Have extra blankets or slippers by their bed. Have a bottle of water, or a glass to help themselves to water. Be thoughtful and have a few snacks just in case your guests have the late night nibbles.
Above all your guests are there to stay for only a short time, so make them feel welcome. That will remain in their memory the longest.
It’s time for me to get ready for my guests this Christmas too! How about you?

I like these ideas. I’ll have to use some for when my parents come to visit next week!
