So you are planning on doing a renovation in the near future? I’m here to today to share my top tips that will not only help get you off to the best start, but will help save you design dollars towards your whole budget.
In my opinion, all projects can benefit from hiring an interior design professional to help you with any design project. You might be colour blind, be an avid DIY’er, or really have an appreciation for design. What ever comfort level you are at, a little or a lot of help from a professional and the right person can get your home to where you want it to be and save you precious dollars towards the investment you place in your home.
Lets get started!
Decide what you really need and take your wants into consideration. The planning you do ahead of time can help keep your professional budget down. Spend time creating a list of likes and dislikes. Having a clear vision not only makes your designer’s job easier, after all we aren’t mind readers. Look online, tear out images from magazines, all a way of helping to show your designer what you are wanting.
Be decisive: Changing your mind can add a significant amount to the design budget. Know what you want and you are on your way toward an efficient and cost-effective project!
Book a Consultation. Set up your renovation with success. The beauty of hiring a designer is that you can use their services a little or a lot depending on your needs. Depending on your project, and budget, hiring a designer for a few hours (most designers charge a minimum of two hours for an initial consultation at a rate of $175 to $395 for two hours). Be prepared with a list of aspects you need/want from your renovation project and you will find that a few hours spend together will gain much clarity. This consultation will give them the time to see your home, and help prepare you for your upcoming project. While this consultation will not answer every aspect of your project, it will allow you to make some concrete decisions, get you on the right track, that ultimately will help you create the home you’ve been wanting. Designers are out of the box thinkers, so they can challenge you in ways you may or may not know to think while listening to the needs of your family dynamics at home.
Choose a designer based off their style and strengths. Remember this is a partnership based off trust and skill. It is best to check out the designers references, and view their work online to see if aligns with what you are looking for. Depending on the length of your project, you will spend significant time together so you will want to feel comfortable with that person in your home.
