Feeling UnInspired In Our Office + What Actually Get’s Done Down There?

You are here: Home / Design / Feeling UnInspired In Our Office + What Actually Get’s Done Down There?

February 23, 2012 By Jodi

For the last few months Darryl and I have been basically making due in our Home office.  We built the office desk and built-in cupboards about 5 years ago and I think Darryl wrote about it here.

The storage has been really  great, but 5 years ago I  didn’t work professionally in this space, and my side of the desk was basically used be as a  craft/scrapbooking area.  I have since given up that hobby, so it makes no sense to be storing items related to that anymore. Organizing and more rearranging as we speak.

The other side of the space, (sorry I have no images of that side of the room) has been primarily where Darryl does Product shoots,  basic head shots on white background, and various types of small projects. Usually you see Darryl outside in his Client’s elements, such as in water, running, or just generally showing the heart of a client through a the eye of his camera lens.

This is the after effect of this type of photography done on white if you aren’t familiar with it.  Darryl really doesn’t get around to blogging {shame on him…:( } or sharing too much of his work. I know there really aren’t any excuses,  but that’s his world. May you can convince him to….  Fingers crossed?

There are also some other things that are going south in our office.

#1.  We have had a small ant problem for the last year downstairs and we really want to investigate what’s going on. The little creatures seem to be coming up through the carpet, and it’s driving this Momma crazy!!!!

#2.  Our carpet is in dire need of being ripped out.  It’s been 9 years in use and it’s time for us to lay something that can handle more wear and tear. Dirt + Me = Grumpy.  Pretty straight forward.

#3.  We are continuously not putting our belongings away, example filling bills, invoices properly, etc. etc…..  This means only one thing.  That our system doesn’t allow for success in this area and out space needs an organizing overhaul.

#4. We really would like our space to be more Inspirational.  Between the ants, dirty carpet, and lack of style down there, it’s getting to us.

So Darryl has asked me to come up with 2 design plans for him to choose from, so I will have to get on that soon.  I’ll show you them when they are done, and you can choose too!

If you work from home, what are some of your ways that you stay organized?

I’d love to hear from you.

Jodi

I totally agree that you’ll have more success once you conquer all these issues! A work space is high on my priority list for our next home. How wonderful it will be to have a door to shut when you need to work or not. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear about your solutions.

Oh, I can so relate! And I’m still working away… I’m at the purging of the filing cabinets part, and I don’t know why I’m letting it bog me down, but I am. It’s such thankless work, yet I am so inspired when it’s done, so is it really thankless in the end? I just keep getting distracted by the fun stuff! We’re in a rental home, so there’s a limit to what we can do, and that’s a bit of a bog… but also just my excuse 😉 The one thing we did do on the weekend was make cutouts in the back of my hubby’s desk so we could relocate the unsightly electronic ‘stuff’ and put the cords through the back – what a.HUGE.difference this made! Why didn’t we do that sooner? Good luck to both of you on this one. Jodi, I know you’ll come up with a great design, and it really is worth the effort in the end!

Just keep imagining how smoothly and more inspired you will be to have an uncluttered space to work in. I am in the same position except that I work out of a shoe box of an office, in which I do like but it’s amazing how the piles keep growing. These piles are made up of projects that keep getting put on hold. I also make lists of things that need to get done, including organizing files etc. I finish the list but find myself constantly rewriting some of the same things ……. “organize office” over and over again. Oy vey !!!!

This post makes me smile. I’m sitting in all sorts of chaos, at the moment, so your office looks rather perfect to me 😉
When I work out my office, I’ll share my “orginization” tricks with you. Ha, ha. btw, Darryl’s pic is very pretty!
