Everything Must Hit Rock Bottom Before It Can Bouce Back To Life.

This weekend I felt like I hit rock bottom with my powder room. No one little room has taken me so long to complete. Having a sick husband and kids definitely has slowed down this process, but like any good project it has to go really bad to get to the place that it looks great. That’s just the way it is, right?  Excuse the photos. They were taken by me in amongst the dust.

So last Friday we ripped out the toilet and existing cabinet and sink. If you’ve ever removed a toilet before the 2nd step after shutting off the water is to empty out the tank and empty out the toilet bowl. That sure was an experience that I don’t need to partake in for a while. There I was for 5 minutes sponging out water into a bowl. Gross!! I know it’s technically  “clean” water, but it still gave me the wiggles and shivers!!!

The process of renos is  never fast enough for my “get it done right away” personality.  This gives me another attempt to work on my patience once again. Doing renos ourselves has always taught us that nothing happens over night, and if it did that meant that we didn’t do a good job. My motto lately is get it done right the first time, so you don’t have to do it again. I’ve learned that a too many times and it is my hope that it will help others just starting out in the adventures of Renos.

So as you can see we’ve stirred up quite the mess and dust with this project. We started laying the tile on Friday night  and last night I finally got around to give it a good coating of grout. So much fun… My fingers are raw… OUCH!

Today’s project is getting the toilet back in and hopefully the sink too! I’m so looking forward to having my powder room back. A day into ripping the toilet out we realized something interesting. Maybe we don’t need a powder room after all and this huge room could be turned onto one amazing Pantry?   Oh… our brain never stops from thinking of a great new project.  For now we decided it would be best to keep this room as a powder room, as it would probably be a better selling feature if we were to sell this home one day. One can dream right?

I hope you all have a great weekend!  I’m hoping to get in some relax time too.

Stay tuned for the results!

I can’t wait to see the finished product, though I don’t like your comment at all about sell-ability. You can’t move! Well, you can if you stay in the same neighbourhood. I know, you were just waiting for my permission! Wow, was that orangey colour the paint in the bathroom before you move in?

The bathroom is almost finished!! Yah!! NO we don’t plan on moving, but we thought we should cover our bases just in case there is something down the road that we aren’t aware of yet. We love our home!!

The orange was the original color that the builders put in. I painted it chocolate brown once and then a gray, and now this. This little bathroom has gotten a lot of attention. I hope this is the last for this space for a looooonnnggg time…
