With January in full swing, the common theme in the air is change. Everyone is changing their diet, their excercise routine, their schedules are without a doubt changing and the list I’m quite sure could go on and on.
For me and our home once the Christmas Decorations are neatly tucked away and out of sight for one more year. Sometimes I feel that way… when I say “out of sight” I really mean it. I really do get sick of the Christmas decor once about when Boxing day hits us and from then on I can’t wait to get rid of it all. This process means cleaning up under every nook and cranny under the couch, doing some extra organizing which I love, love, love…. and all that good stuff.
When it’s all clean it gives me a chance to take a good look at all my belongings and really decide what I should keep and what to do without. Not sure if you are aware, but selling on Craigslist is a really great way to get most or sometimes more loot back for what you have originally purchased. January is an Excellent time to Sell anything that you may know you are going to sell anyways this year. Why you ask? Being January means people have spent way too much on Christmas so they turn straight to Craigslist to solve all their decorating needs. #1 they need goods to change the way they live and #2 they need it done cheap!
So this is what I’ve gotten myself into. I know that I will be selling some of the final antiques in my Master bedroom this year so I’ve taken to posting them a lot earlier than I am ready to. I know this seems quite ridiculous seeing as I’m not working on a redesign in our bedroom for quite some time, but I met a wonderful gal last week when she bought some antique windows from me. Her style is pure country so I thought I would take this opportunity to sell her the end tables that we have been using in our bed room for the past year. She was instantly in love with my idea of using these antique school desks as night stands and was so grateful to be abe to purchase them for her bedroom which she is finally getting to do up for her and her husband.
The smaller night stand I call the “Girls side” because it is petit and cute, and the Man’s side is the larger one because of a Man’s stronger build. Funny, but that’s how I saw them being put to use. 🙂
Not sure exactly where I will store my belongings for a few months, but I’m sure we can live with out? HHmmmm..
These Antique school desks were picked up by this gal this weekend and I am so happy that she loves them just as much as I did. With my style changing there’s really no need to keep them, and I’m very glad they are going to a good home. She also cleared out 5 other items kickn’ around my house as well. As she stated, I am a really good “One stop shop!”. Best of luck as she pulls her new Room design together and has fun with it!
When do you think is the best time to sell things on Craigslist? Have you lived in a room with basically nothing till your room can be pulled together? I know I will be.

Yeah for Craigslist selling!!! I have lived without “essential” pieces of furniture while waiting for the perfect piece. It always makes me appreciate the purchase that much more when it finally happens!

I am soooooo similar to you in the sense that I just love to get the Christmas decorations cleaned up and continue onto cleaning the rest of the house right after. It is all about getting rid of the old and welcoming in the new. Gosh I get off on that!!!

I was so ready to put our stuff away, too! In the last 2 years we’ve taken everything down by the 29th, and on New Year’s day were so glad we did! I used to do it all on the 1st! Not anymore.
I’ve been having success with UsedCowichan.com and UsedVictoria.com – it’s like Craig’s List or Kijiji. We just lucked out on an overstock liquidation sale for a brand new King bed that came with its warranty, never removed from its wrap! And sold our Queen within 3 days. And I just picked up a set of metal shelving for $12 for our garage to hold my cans of paint! We have stuff downstairs that I have to go through and list. I’m kind of loving the whole purging process right now! Good for you for seizing the moment and letting your things go now! It’s only temporary… stacking file boxes works in a pinch 😉

The x-school-teacher in me is loving the desk as a bedside table. So cute. Now if it just had an ink-well to store some mid-night snacks or …
