Big Cooking For The Community..

You are here: Home / Thoughts / Big Cooking For The Community..

May 27, 2011 By Jodi

Monday night  I had the  privilege of cooking again with 4 other gals in our home. We’ve been calling this ministry “The BIG cook” and we met at 6:00 and shared some amazing Thai food together.  This ministry was started by our church Jericho Ridge help anyone in our community that plainly needs help.  We experienced this amazing love and support almost 4.5 years ago when our son died at the age of 2 weeks. We were new to the church then, and we have never experienced a community’s love like this before.  Meals were brought to our home for 2 weeks solid, and our tummies were fed.  The were fed good.  I really believe that people need one thing in a crisis. Food and Love.  With this, I believe that they can at the very least be given the ability to get through what ever it is that they need to get through,  just like we did.
So here’s the deal:  Each person had planned what they wanted to make, bought all the ingredients, and disposable containers to put the meal in.  We made all the meals together in 2 hours, and afterwards they are stored in the Church freezer.  Then that way a delicious meal or meals are ready to go if some sort of crisis or need comes up.
Starting at 6:00 we shard some amazing Thai food and since you weren’t there, I thought I should show you what we consumed!!!  Aren’t you wishing you were there with us?  If you would like to next time, let me know we would love to have more join us if you happen to live in my community!!
On the menu was…

We throughly enjoyed our dinner and everything was fabulous!!  Carly from kitchening with carly organized the whole night for us and also was kind enough to pick up the food that we devoured!!  Darryl was even able to sneak a taste of what were enjoying.  One of the perks for him that we did the cooking at our house..  Here’s some shots of the night that Carly took with her camera.

We met in our home and between 5 of us ladies, over 20 meals were made for people in our community that may need a meal.  On the menu for the meals was Lemon grass chicken and rice, chicken enchiladas,  unconventional Shepard’s pie,  pop up pizza casserole, and  pizza buns…there have even been other people making up meals or baking in their own home and getting it to me to store in the main freezer.

YUM!

The evening was a great and successful night, filled with chopping, cutting, pan frying, and the packaging of meals, and who could forget laughter!  A big thanks to all the other ladies for all their prep work, coming up with meals, buying ingredients, and coming to my house to make this all happen for our community!!

It was a huge success!!

Happy Friday!

Love the Thai food photos you’ve found. Can’t have us cooking on empty stomachs! Thank you again for hosting. Your lovely kitchen inspired our best cooking.
