I would like to take a moment to share a story that I feel is so important and worth the read. On March 2nd, 2012, a young wife and mother, Melissa White, passed away at the age of 30. Diagnosed 13 months prior with ALS and Frontotemporal Dementia – one of the youngest persons to be diagnosed with both diseases – Melissa represents an incredibly small percentage of the population as most people are diagnosed with ALS between the ages of 40-60 and only 5% will also be diagnosed with FTD. A horrible life-sentence, ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, currently has no cure and is characterized as a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease. To say that this Langley family has had a difficult year and a half is an incredible understatement.
In the wake of her passing, a friend of mine has started a number of fundraising initiatives to help support the husband and three young children, ages 2, 4 and 6. All funds are going to a special Personal Tragedy Account set up for the family at the Royal Bank in Langley.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Langley, the ‘Melissa White Legacy Raffle’ tickets are being sold RIGHT NOW all over Langley, Surrey & WhiteRock and can be purchased directly from me, if you wish. With over $5700 in prizes, including a grand prize of two tickets ANYWHERE WestJet flies, if this families’ story doesn’t move you to action, these prizes most certainly will! (http://whitefamilytrustfund.weebly.com/raffle-prizes.html)
With only 2000 tickets printed, odds of winning are excellent and your $10 ticket enters you to win all 4 prizes!
If you wish to purchase raffle tickets, please contact me, visit one of the sales centers (http://whitefamilytrustfund.weebly.com/want-to-buy-raffle-tickets.html) or email Anita McCarthy (Co-Ordinator) directly at whitefamilytrustfund@gmail.com.
At one point or another, we will all experience struggles, tragedies and situations, which are simply beyond our comprehension or control. It is in those times that we so appreciate the people who come alongside of us, not just in the short term, but in the long term. By taking a moment to purchase a raffle ticket, you will be helping do just that for this family. By taking the few moments to spend that $10, $20 or more, your gift will act as a part of a larger, corporate effort by the community, near and far, to show the White Family that they are not alone in this journey.
Would you take a moment and consider being a part of something positive in the midst of this unbelievably difficult situation. Even if you have never, nor will ever meet this family, your gift will be such a blessing.
Thank you,
Jodi
