Well, I’m back after a long few weeks away from Blogging, and it’s so good to be back. Our Christmas was amazing despite Darryl has been extremely sick for about 2 weeks now so that has presented some challenges. With some time away to reflect and plan out my year I have so many post ideas to share with you so look forward to hearing more from me and all that I am passionate about.
Over the last little while, a lot of you have been asking me about the wood that we installed in our home so I thought it was time to tell you a little about it and lead you in the right direction if it’s a product that’s right for you!
We installed this wood around 5 years ago and it has been without a doubt one of the best decisions that the two of us have ever made for our home. You know when there are those moments in your home that you just know you messed up with a selection of a material in your home and I mean messed up BIG? (buying white carpets, fabric dinning room chairs with children in the house, etc… ) Well.. this wasn’t one of them.
We chose this wire brushed wood because for starters we loved the colour of it. In certain lighting it reads more chocolate-brown and in other times of the day depending on the light there are more red undertones that come from it. That’s the way wood is… it’s mysterious. You never really know what you’re going to get when you wade through the boxes of wood come installation day. Some of the boards can be of one colour and other times the boards can be of another. I love that. The boards are like people. Not one board is alike.
So back to our Wood. The basic idea behind a wire brushed board is that the fine, delicate surface of the hardwood is wire-scraped off and then the colour is oiled on afterwards. This not only gives it a really great look, but the durability of this wood is outstanding! Our wood is roughly 5 years old and reads brand new. You basically can’t say that about most wood floors.
It doesn’t have that shiny appearance like most floors, but the trade-off is that we never have to be worried if someone drops anything on it, our little man can drive his cars on it to his heart’s content, and the list goes on and on.
Our investment is safe and sound and we love it!
Hope you found my wood interesting… What’s your favorite wood surface and why?

We love our wood floor too and I hope we have something similar in our next home. It’s hand-scraped and not perfectly finished. It doesn’t show dirt or wear and it feels great under your feet.
