It has been in the plans for quite some time for us to design and build an Island in our kitchen. We have the extra space that is needed, and the way that we work and we play in our kitchen as a family has changed so adding this feature for our family is a no brainer.
Our original plan was to build a kitchen Island from the ground up, most of the work done by Darryl of course. With our schedules really at the max right now we really felt this was going to barely happen even next year at the soonest.
Well at our IDS Blend West party that all changed! If you missed my post about our lucky winnings you would have missed that Darryl won the Grand prize which was a $1000 at Ikea. Crazy good! The icing on the cake was that we were planning on buying one of Ikea’s standing kitchen Islands anyways and customizing it so it fit into our home.
This unit is strong, sturdy and has met all our storage needs and more. We’ll work on it in the next month or so and we’ll share more photos when it’s all done! It will be so great when it’s done, so Thank you so much IKEA!
Has Anyone out there ever Ikea- hacked a standing kitchen?

What a great piece, and a great way to spend your prize! 🙂 I look forward to seeing it in your space!

We have actually got some pretty good mileage from that gift card; this piece is just a part of it. It will not be looking “stock” for much longer.

Sounds like the perfect addition to your home! Can’t wait to see how you “hack” it and personalize it for your kitchen!
Darryl says
The end result should be in the unrecognizable category. This piece has some great structure to it, so customizing the appearance will be pretty easy, especially compared to the fireplace I just finished.
I heard that we are hosting the Christmas DLBW get together, so you should be able to see it then.
