This past weekend I made some more progress on my living room. I have been putting off the painting and sanding that I so badly needed to do on our newly decked out fireplace, but I knew no longer I had anymore excuses why I couldn’t finish it.
Darryl had an event to go to Saturday night, so it was the perfect opportunity to put in a girly Flick and paint the night away! Literally… While I didn’t paint the Town Red as “they” say…. (who is “they”anyways?) I did finish up the paint on the crown molding, the custom book shelves we have been working on, and all the door ways. This is the sneak peek of the progress and you’ll have to wait till it’s all done for the big reveal!
I just need to do some touch ups, more painting, more painting and did I mention some more painting? After that the fun part begins and means the filling of it!
Custom work is really important to me as a whole idea in design. One of the best ways that I try to bring great design come to life in my designs is through static, custom pieces. This can be either a really great crown design, custom mill work, panelling, or customized book shelves for your family. I think through all these different types of elements that rooms come alive. One way I try to describe it is that if you were to strip your room from head to toe of all the “pretty and fluff” decor wise, would your room still speak volumes? Or is it just a pretty room with pretty stuff in it? I really like to challenge room design this way and make the room work for me and not the other way around. So next time you’re thinking of ways to bring your room to life, think of a way that you can bring something custom to your space. You will be so surprised how fulfilling it can be.
I have been slowly working on this room since July and it’s so great to finally see the big picture come into place. The whole room design has been in my head for so long and finally it’s coming into action.
I have been thinking of different ways that I would like to style my book-case, and some of these items came into my thoughts.
My kids have so enjoyed laying on the floor next to the “library” this weekend reading their books and one item on my “list” was a poof of some sort. This one caught my eye and the price point isn’t too bad at $100.
This polygon shape has been turning heads of stylists all over the place. How could it not? At $15.00 and 6″ high it’s a great little piece to add to your book-case, coffee table or office. What do you think?
I still want to find a larger tall mirror for one of my walls. This will be a free-standing one like the image above and will not only let in more light to our space, but Design wise it will pull all the other elements together really well. A small chair could be placed in front of it or a small bench. I haven’t found the one I like yet, so I will keep my eyes open. I’m really looking for something really specific, so I know I will be looking for a while.
I’ll keep you posted on the progress and I promise to show you more photos soon.

Aw, those look great! That is really something to think about whether a room still speaks volumes when it is empty of the pretty stuff. I watched Life as We Know It the other day when Ronnie went night fishing. Very cute flick. Hope you get to check it out if you havent already.

Hi Jodi!
So sorry to have missed commenting – my RSS feed opted out on me this week (*#@A%$)… so now I have a ton of catch-up to do!
Love what you’re doing here – your bookcases are awesome. I’m a huge fan! And I really love the polygon… Can’t wait for the reveal 🙂
