Happy Monday to you all. It has been a crazy weekend, but yesterday I found some time to do those things I enjoy the most. Swimming with my kids, relaxing, tidying up the house and the general get ready for the week stuff. Sounds fun huh?
So Friday I showed you my master bedroom makeover that I did for a budget of $100. Here’s the shot of it before to recap for any new followers in the mix today. Uhh, boring….
I want to share with you some of the special details of my master bedroom makeover, and why they are special to me.
1. I enlisted Mr. Holmsey to Install Trim around both widows. This makes a huge difference in this room and it wouldn’t be complete with out doing so.
2. I “Borrowed” the antique mirror from my living room to hang gracefully above our bed. I love it! It pulls all the vintage accents together.
3. This chandelier was a great find. Now in a pewter shade it brings elegance and grace to this space and ties the whole space together beautifully.
4. I really wanted some vintage prints to go in this space. Especially if they were flower prints. This is one set of prints I came across and I’m so glad that I did. The on the left and the right were probably from an art book that French painter P.J Redoute painted. While I don’t think they are worth anything, they were just what I was looking for. The bedroom walls are a light gray with a hint of purple, so the plums and smokey greys in the prints caught my eye right away. The prints are really faded from the sun from their original home. This suites this calm, soothing room just fine.
The print in the middle is by Famous John James Audburon (greatest of all bird painters). This one is faded too, but the colors went well together with the french prints.
5. This stunning crystal candle holder sparkles in the sun sitting in the window. I’m a sucker for anyting glass with great lines.
6. I painted the curtain rod white which is a no brainer. I exchanged out the drapes for some others that I had in a different space. The color of these are a little more muted then the original ones. Plus, they were free.
7. The two antique desks used as side tables were bought at an antique store for $12.00 each. Yes, that is not a typo. Again, $12.00 each. Regular price on the “His” one was $179.00 and the chalk board desk was selling for $99.00 LOVE THEM!!! I put these His and Her desks in place of the floating side tables we originally had on each side of our bed. While I love the floating night tables when it comes to vacumming, I think the desks add much more warmth to the space.
The smaller “Her” desk was orginally brown. I had been trying to sell it on Craigslis forever. I gave up and embraced all the extra storage it provided for us. Here’s the desk before.
And after….
8. These are some other prints I found as well. Or can I say they found me! I love them. Painted by John James Auduron.
9. As I mentioned on Friday we both love Hydragea flowers, so it seemed fitting to bring them into our space. Here is just another beautiful shot I took of them.
10. I left the orginal antique dresser in the middle of wall by our bathroom. We plan on tearing that wall down at some point so It didn’t seem smart to spend any money on that wall. The only things on the table are my facial products, cotton balls and a beautiul bowl and pitcher.
11. This 1880’s coat stand is perfect to hang just about anything up. Regular price $99. I bought it for $20 about 4 months ago.
In most cases I never really have a concrete plan of what I want to style a home with when it comes to accessories. Except for the vintage looking prints of the flowers. I was fortunate to find exactly what I was looking for that day, for such a reasonable price. Some times I start with a color, and let the color guide my thoughts when I’m out and about looking for items. Other times, it’s a feeling to go on or an image in my head. It all really depends. Sometimes great design can’t be rushed and I’m so glad that a year ago I didn’t just rush out to the closest home store and buy everything they had. A master bedroom is a personal thing, and unique and rare items shouldn’t be picked out in an hour. Just some of my thoughts.
I put a challenge out there for you to be personal with your space. All the big furniture stores are great, but there’s nothing more special than the unique finds you can come across if you view items and objects differently. It just may take some time.
Sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite!

It’s beautiful. I am about to paint my 13 year old sleigh bed white gloss like your bed. I would love to know what white it is and also love the wall color. What is it? Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you Gretchen for coming on by my site! We painted out bed “blossom white” by rustoleum In satin. The wall color is “Gentle rain” 790E-2. It’s a subtle gery colour with purple undertones, and it is so calming and soothing. Good luck with your bedroom project!
