Kitchen art work can be a tricky one to figure out. Let’s face it, family calendars, school notices, and doctor notes aren’t really that great to look at. While there is a place for all of these things in my kitchen, sometimes I would rather look at something fresh or more interesting on the walls instead. When we renovated our kitchen a few years back I really wanted some images of food that represented vitality, and health. Not to mention I really love good wholesome food so why not be surrounded by images of food.
I’m sure you have noticed by now that the photography on my site is very fresh and tailored. My husband and I have worked together to design each image that way. I will introduce him formally soon, but for now I’ll give you some tidbits about his photography and lighting style, since his experience is the driving force behind our images. First, he (well, we) are a big fan of bright photos of the home simply because of the airy feeling they invoke. Second, for most of our shots he shoots a mixture of natural light and flash. This allows the freedom to shoot hand held and really work the room for the best composition. With all of those variables set it also allows me to jump in and compose images based on how I feel about the room. Third, we limit the amount of post processing done to the images as much as possible. The goal is to bring the best out of the photo, not to create something that wasn’t there.
Later in the next few weeks I will talk more about what to expect from my site and some exciting news I will be sharing. For now I would like to introduce these photos that my husband shot for our kitchen. We had a fun with this photo shoot using only ingredients that represented “Freshness”.
These are some of my favorites. MMMMM… Pears.
Who could resist fresh asparagus? These are great on the BBQ in the summer.
There’s nothing like a creamy, cheesey omlet in the morning made with fresh eggs.
No apple pie is complete without fresh granny smith apples. Oh.. my taste buds are in full gear!
I can’t survive my morning without a good cup of coffee.
Summer coleslaw salads wouldnt’ be complete without fresh purple cabbage…
and ripe red tomatoes… to make a bocconcini and mozzeralla salad.
Last, but who could resist dip made with fresh, green artichokes…
Well these are just a few photos I have in my kitchen right now. I put them in white frames with white mats and they look stunning. I designed our kitchen mostly white so they give my kitchen that POP of color that it needs. The images give my kitchen that fresh, tailored look I was after.
What is hanging on your kitchen walls? Please share.

Those images are amazing! You could print them up and frame them {or just eat them if you are really hungry}!
Can’t wait to read those lighting tips!

Since my kitchen meshes right into my front entry, a simple black framed mirror is a focal point. I’ve added a black picture frame that holds 3 images on either side; currently black & white photos of our children reside inside, but I’m liking the idea of color…. maybe time to print some more photos!
