Wow! Its Friday already? Where did this week go? These last few weeks have had fewer posts, if you have noticed, and this has given me some much-needed time to reflect on where I see my next 6 months going and so forth. I initially started this blog to get used to speaking about what I am so passionate about. Creating spaces in my mind and talking about “why” I did something are two very different things. I believe I have a unique way of looking at design (although I do not profess to be an expert by any means). No one is really. What makes you an expert in my mind is to love what you have created. Whether is a simple dresser makeover,or a designing a whole room. As I work on various projects right now, I am constantly challenging my self to do it right, or not at all. This is the reason my powder room project is stalled at the moment. Remember this photo?
In the initial process of redoing my powder room, I painted this cabinet an antique white color. Just when I thought I was almost done the project, I stepped back and realized right after that I needed to invest the money and time to get the room right. I want this space to feel pretty afterwards with a very calm and elegant feeling. To capture the feeling that I was after requires that we remove the existing tiles and put in a pedestal sink. So this project has had a slow start, which I am not very fond of. Actually it’s driving me crazy. When I start a project, I always finish it right away. I am not a doddler, although it feels with this project I have to be for the moment. priorities right?
My philosophy for any future clients is simply this. To create rooms and spaces that are practical, beautiful, as well as give off the feeling that the interested party is looking for. If I have done that, then I think I have accomplished and made them very happy.
I have a few projects on the go for the moment, so when I have the “after” photos I will share them with you. Hopefully some you will see as soon as possible. The next project I am about to start is for a little girl. When I say little I mean little. She is 8 months old and she is a cutie. Her parents have wanted a beautiful space for their little girl for so long now and now the timing is right. I have the opportunity to guide them and come up with a design with the funds that they have. So here is part of the plan as of now.
Presently, they have a Ikea Day Bed in her room which I love, Love, love. The room is tiny, but with the right planning I know I can create something to wow them! I hope the little Miss will love it some day too!
My idea of a great kids room is to design it so the results will last. In my opinion there’s no point in spending the money on cutie pie Barney or Winnie the Pooh stick ons only to have to rip them off in a year. My advice is spend your money wisely the first time and you will essentially have a rooms that will last.
The best advice I can give you is to look at these designs by Sarah Richardson, one of my personal Design Hero’s. When she designs a childs room she not only installs elements into the room that will work for the present but will be absolutely stunning in the years to come. Babies will not stay babies forever…
I love this image because this is exactly what I picture for this little girl’s design. My client wants the room to be calm and visually clutter free. White Drapes are a must, so with the use of different textures and pops of color, this “white” room will in the end come alive!
I love this room because it reflects all that a little boy should be. A little bit masculinity, the fabric’s don’t scream “baby” and I love how this room will grow with this little boy, whomever he is?….
This nursery Wows me. This is such a bold take on a little Man’s space. In the end when this little boy turns 6 he will love it and it will meet all his Big boy needs. I would note: I would never attempt to wallpaper a ceiling, as I have found out wall papering is not for short people. I sit at a grand 5′ 2″ so you can get a good laugh at what that would look like. Go ahead, have a good laugh…. Are you done now? If there is a time to hire contract out some work, this would be it for me.
So all in all these images are not only stunning, but practical. Sarah Richardson has said many times before. “Baby’s don’t stay babies for very long.” So my advice if you want it. Spend your money wisely on the elements that will stand the test of time, and as your children age, you can change the style of the room to accommodate their growing design needs.

Those are some great inspirational pictures. I also am a big fan of Sarah Richardson!
